PCR is recycled plastic from bottles and containers that have already been used. The material is collected, cleaned, and reprocessed into new products.
OCS uses PCR plastic collected from kerbside waste as well as prevented ocean plastic.
Using plastic already in production reduces the need for virgin materials / helping to divert waste from landfills and waterways / minimising environmental impact and cutting down on energy consumption and carbon emissions associated with manufacturing new plastic.
prevented ocean plastic /
The Prevented Ocean Plastic / POP / Programme prevents over 1,000 tonnes of plastic from entering the ocean every month and has so far stopped over one billion plastic bottles from reaching the water. This plastic, known as ocean-bound, is typically gathered from coastal areas, riverbanks, and regions where waste management is limited or non-existent, making it highly likely that the plastic would eventually end up in the ocean.
By collecting and recycling this plastic before it becomes marine debris, POP initiatives help reduce ocean pollution while turning discarded plastic into usable material for new products. This approach supports both environmental protection and the circular economy.

reusable pumps /
Pumps and sprays contain small parts which make them difficult to recycle. OCS has chosen not to include them with every bottle, as part of their commitment to sustainability. To encourage reuse, pumps and sprays are offered separately with a small charge attached.
Importantly, OCS shampoos and conditioners can be decanted without a pump.

As a Certified B Corporation, our environmental impact is hugely important to us and we are constantly evaluating the materials we use. So far, our intensive research has shown that plastic bottles, especially recycled ones, require less energy to produce and transport than glass, which is heavier and more resource-intensive to manufacture and ship.
By using PCR and ocean-bound plastic, we reduce the need for new virgin materials and divert plastic waste from oceans and landfills, directly tackling pollution. Once you've used your OCS products, the bottles should be placed into your recycling bin, contributing to a circular economy.
Please rinse out empty bottles and place in your kerbside recycling bin. More information can be found on each product listing within the OCS shop.
Ocean-bound plastic is collected from coastal areas and riverbanks before entering the ocean, which can be recycled and repurposed.
Ocean plastic is debris that has already entered the water. There, sun and salt degrade the plastic within a few days, making it largely unusable for recycling. This makes the removal of ocean plastic a clean-up effort, not a recycling effort.
